The Human Rights Campaign San Francisco Bay Area Steering Committee represents the ENTIRE SF Bay Area, Peninsula, South Bay, Marin, and Sacramento in its activities in the community. The members of the Steering Committee are as diverse as the activities and projects we take on. As you can see in the following paragraphs, we are VERY well represented in Washington DC on a National level. Those of us on the National Boards travel to DC at least twice a year to attend meetings, seminars, and lobby Congress on behalf of HRC members.
Steering Committee Member and National Board of Governors member Tom Floyd, from San Jose is spearheading the new "Third Tuesday South Bay Event" held in San Jose. This area is growing quickly as a large base of support for HRC. Tom was male Co-Chair of the 2008 Gala Dinner . He is also our Corporate Outreach Co-Chair and has created the HRC Workplace Panel Series in the Bay Area. Tom invisons a time when the Silicon Valley will have it's own chapter of HRC. The female Co-Chair for the 2009 Dinner is Committee Member, Jill Federico. Jill will be spearheading our outreach to the Women's Community and creating Women's Events in the future. Jill is also the Steering Committee Co-Chair and the Alternate Area Representative for the Western States to HRC National.
Also involved with Community Events is Committee Member Fidel Chavoya who takes the lead on our Community Events in San Francisco as well as events such as the "Shopping Works Wonders" at Bloomingdale's SF on December 8th, 2007 the screening of "So The Bible Tells Me So", and the season premiere of "The L Word" in January 2009, that will be held in many locations in the Bay Area.
Looking after up our Federal Club Council members are longtime members and newest National Board of Directors Frank Woo, from San Francisco and Linda Scaparotti, from Marin. Our Federal Club Council and Major Donors Chair is Scott Wiener, also a Board of Directors member. Scott is also the former chairman of The Democratic Party in San Francisco and with the San Francisco District Attorney's Office.
In the area of communications, you'll find the able National Board of Governor John Marez handling the press releases and communication between other LGBT organizations with the support of 2009 Dinner Co-Chair Steven Spencer-Stiegner who brings his expertise in PR and marketing to the table as Co-Chair of Political, and Co-Chair of Federal Club with Steering Committee member and National Board of Governor Kevin Cheng leading all our Federal Club members, Kevin has acted as our Area Representative to HRC National.
Jeffrey Adair, acts as the Web Content Manager for our SF Bay Area webpage and the Western Area Representative, reporting to HRC National. He is on the National Board of Governors as well and has worked on the local dinner for the last 4 years.
We are so excited to welcome our two newest members to the committee! Sonia Reyes ( a transplant from the Austin, TX Steering Committee) and Keith Powell ( on the National Business Council and a transplant from the Greater New York Steering Committee)
Richard Morehead has worked on our Annual Gala Dinner for many years and has been responsible for our Honorary Committee for the dinner, speaking with elected officials all across the bay area as well as the state. He is now our volunteer coordinator for all our HRC activities in the bay area. Geri Rochino takes on our Community Events co-chair role, focusing on Women's Events in the Bay Area. Geri will lead the L Word Premiere Event in San Francisco in January 2009.
