HRC Foundation's LIFE, LIBERTY AND THE PURSUIT OF FAMILY in the SF Bay Area

Special thanks to Alison Delpercio, coordinator of the Family and Workplace Projects for the HRC Foundation, for this guest post.

The HRC Foundation, in partnership with California Department of Social Services and Los Angeles County Adoption Services, has launched a new adoption awareness ad campaign in LA county. This campaign is titled “Life, Liberty & the Pursuit of Family” and is aimed at raising awareness of opportunities for the LGBT

community to adopt or foster children. The Ad campaign has received quite a bit of press attention since it launched on Monday – check out this ABC 7 news story – and is highly visible to anyone that drives by the billboard in West Hollywood over the next 24 weeks. The campaign will also start the week of February 9th,2009 in Alameda County, partnering with Family Builders of Oakland and San Francisco.

The Life, Liberty & Pursuit of Family Ad Campaign:
John Wagner, Director of the California State Department of Social Services, recently joined the All Children—All Families Advisory Board and was the catalyst for obtaining funding for the campaign in L.A. and Alameda Counties. Currently there are three adoption agencies taking part in the campaign nationwide – Adoptions Together (Silver Spring, MD) (this campaign launched in November 2008), Family Builders (Oakland, CA) and LA County Department of Children & Family Services (Pasadena, CA). There are location-specific ads in each of these areas which point people to our website – www.lgbtadoption.org – or an agency-specific website such as http://shareyourheartla.org. Read More »

Couple Marching Through California to Revoke Prop 8

Today was an amazing day! I had the opportunity to walk a mile with Valerie and Tracie. They are a truly inspiring couple, dedicated to Marriage Equality. While we walked, we chatted about their experiences coming up through California and the overwhelming support they've received in the most unlikely areas of our state.

Valerie Paget and Tracie Jones are a Los Angeles couple affected by the passage of Proposition 8, they had a rally in Palo Alto on Dec. 15th and  walked through Redwood City Dec 16th. They are on a march through California to demonstrate their conviction that the California Supreme Court should revoke Prop 8.

The two marchers will arrive at the steps of the California Supreme Court on December 19th at 12:00 noon , the deadline for Yes on 8’s first filing in the historic Supreme Court case that will decide the constitutionality of Prop 8. In coordination with Rick Jacobs of the Courage Campaign, Valerie and Tracie will deliver a petition to revoke Prop 8 that has been signed by over 300,000 people.

Valerie and Tracie began their march in West Hollywood Park, Los Angeles, on November 17th. As they march, Valerie and Tracie are carrying their message through every community along their route from Los Angeles to San Francisco, collecting signatures, rallying communities, and gathering personal letters and video testimonies from Californians to bring to the courthouse.  Read More »
